People and Animals
Family names are written next to the front door of houses.

The meaning of yes and no can be opposite to the Western usage such as in “yes I won’t”.
Dog walkers usually wipe their dogs arse if it does a poo.

Driving
It is a status symbol to own a car such as a Mercedes with the steering wheel on the left although it would be more practical on the right since Japanese drive on the left side of the road.
TV panels are common on the front dashboard of cars.
Most cars are white or silver.
Many 2-way roads are only one car width wide.

Miscellaneous
Abacus classes are still popular.
You can visit a Ramen (Japanese noodle) and a curry museum in Yokohama.
Political candidates drive around the streets with megaphones shouting out their names at election times.
Washing machines only use cold water, even in winter.
